Since 2013, the Neuromuscular Centre has led pioneering research to improve the lives of adults with muscular dystrophy in partnership with our Director of Research, Dr Christopher Morse (Manchester Metropolitan University).
This partnership has shaped clinical standards and provided evidence that resistance training is a safe and effective therapy in those with muscular dystrophy, offering numerous physical and mental health benefits.
We are one of the few research centres globally to engage daily with adults with muscular dystrophy, ensuring their voices guide our research. Our studies have uncovered key factors affecting quality of life including pain, fatigue, sleep disruption, and overlooked issues like urinary incontinence and diabetes.
With over a decade of impactful research, we continue to seek ways of improving quality of life for those with muscular dystrophy.
