We love working with people who strive to make a difference and bring communities together — and in Winsford, no one champions that cause quite like John Malam.
A passionate independent councillor, community leader, and event organiser, John approached us in 2018 with an idea: to create a booklet that highlighted everything happening in Winsford across the year. The goal? To help residents discover local events, celebrate their town, and build community.
The Brief
Create an inviting, easy-to-use guide that would:
- Clearly present dates and event info
- Feel lively, colourful and inclusive
- Encourage local participation
- Foster town pride and unity
- Be low-cost and widely accessible
Our solution
We designed a compact, eye-catching A6 booklet with:
- A calendar-style layout with events in date order
- Colour-coded categories for easy browsing
- Maps, graphics and exciting images to spark interest in each event.
- Small format perfect for pockets and handbags
The project was a hit — and has grown year on year. Copies have even travelled across continents!
Growth and change
During the pandemic, ownership of the project passed from Winsford Town Council to Friends of Winsford Town Park, with John continuing to lead. The format shifted, becoming a glossy A4 calendar that people could display in their homes and refer to all year round.
The guide now has a different focus each year, but stays true to its original purpose, bringing people together, celebrating Winsford, and spotlighting the creativity within the community.
‘The Friends of Winsford Town Park chose to work with the Neuromuscular Centre Design+Print team when we set about creating the official Winsford town calendar. We wanted to work with a local provider whom we could easily meet in person or talk to by phone.
We were keen to support the NMC Design+Print team, knowing that our job would have many positive benefits to all those involved in its design and production, especially given the calendar’s high public profile.
NMC Design+Print fully understood the brief and came back to us with lots of helpful suggestions and options. We have returned each year to the NMC for design and print of a new calendar, and the high standards have been maintained year after year.’
