What we do

Physiotherapy & Exercise

Our specialist team conducts a thorough initial assessment for each person referred to us, followed by a personalised, ongoing treatment plan. These services, which are free of charge and not available through the NHS, are essential for maintaining muscle strength, managing pain, and promoting overall fitness and health.

Neuromuscular Gym

We have the only purpose-built Neuromuscular gym in the UK, with adapted equipment suitable for our community to exercise safely.

Training and Career Development

Our fully accessible training suite offers on-site and distance learning opportunities in Graphic Design, 3D printing, IT and Life Skills delivered by skilled tutors. These are free of charge and open to anyone with a neuromuscular condition.

We work closely with individuals to build tailored CVs, find both paid and voluntary opportunities, and provide support in communicating with employers about neuromuscular conditions.

We have a creative space called NMC Makerspace in which our NMC community can make and design our ‘everyday digital’ and physical world together creatively.

It’s an open space with access to digital and physical tools to collaborate on ‘hybrid’ projects; the partly physical and partly digital things that address issues relevant to our community.

We offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme to young people between the ages of 14 and 25 and a programme of social events.

NMC Design+Print

Our in-house Graphic Design company employs people with neuromuscular conditions and has customers throughout the UK. We offer modern and creative graphic design and competitively priced printing services with a range of options and finishes to suit all needs. We offer a healthy serving of social value along with a professional service, with profits that we make going towards the running costs of NMC.

Community

We have a vibrant community of individuals with neuromuscular conditions, along with their families and carers, who actively participate in volunteering and events both at NMC and within our local area. Our community activities include the Shed Club, craft groups, and fishing days, providing opportunities for social connection, skill-building, and well-being.

Support

Our Support Team has a wealth of knowledge and experience and can provide support with equipment, benefits, home adaptations and more. We offer regular talks and workshops, as well as Talking Therapies.

Research

We have a Research partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and are currently exploring the impact of healthy eating on people with neuromuscular conditions.
