Our Trustees

Bill Duckworth – Chair of Trustees

Bill joined the board of Trustees in 2021, and has been chair since 2024. Bill’s involvement with NMC spans more than 20 years though, as his wife Andrea accesses our services. Bill’s career was in the Steel Industry, retiring in 2025 after 38 years as Works Manager of one of Tata Steel UK’s manufacturing plants in North Wales.

My wife has a rare form of muscular dystrophy and has been a user, volunteer and employee of the charity since her diagnosis in 2002. The NMC has provided her and our whole family with much more than just physiotherapy support and has guided and advised us through the stages of her condition. Becoming a Trustee was one way that I could express my gratitude and give something back to such an amazing organisation.

Sunil Monteiro – Treasurer

Sunil joined the NMC Community in 2018 when he began attending for physiotherapy and exercise, and joined the Board of Trustees in 2021. He was appointed Treasurer in 2025. Sunil is an Actuary for a Life Insurance company, focusing on its capital position and ensuring it can withstand market stresses.

NMC’s fun and friendly approach helped me to enjoy and reclaim exercise, boosting my confidence in my physical abilities. I became a Trustee after seeing the NMC’s remarkable impact on the people it touches. I’ve enjoyed the incredible opportunity to develop personally and professionally, as well as giving back to the Centre. I love being involved with the strategic direction of the charity, and ensuring it runs effectively, with its community at the heart of all decisions.

Rachel Woodward – Trustee

Rachel has a long history with NMC, having accessed our services since the age of 18 and holding many roles in the team prior to becoming a Trustee in 2025 including Volunteer, Welcome Day Coordinator, and Secretary to the Board of Trustees. Rachel is a Secondary School English Teacher working across the Wirral and Cheshire, and in her spare time enjoys socialising, reading and dog walking.

I became a Trustee because I wanted to ensure that the vital support NMC provides continues to reach as many people as it can.

Sanjay Vaja – Trustee

Sanjay started coming to NMC for Physio 20 years ago, and has been involved with numerous Fundraising events as a Guest Speaker. Sanjay is a Chemical Engineer by profession, working for a large pharmaceutical compan, and in his spare time sings in a choir and writes poetry.

The support my family and I have received over the years by NMC is a huge factor in wanting to become a Trustee. I’ve been a School Governor, and have been involved with a charity that campaigns to end the worst aspects of poverty – all skills and experience that I hope to bring to NMC’s Board of Trustees.

Gareth Hind – Trustee

Gareth is an experienced HR leader, with a career dedicated to creating inclusive, people-centred workplaces. As a Director for First Bus, he brings a strategic yet empathetic approach to leadership, always driven by a deep belief in the power of respect, belonging and human connection. Gareth became a Trustee in 2025, motivated by a personal commitment to equality and inclusion, and has been attending NMC’s Fundraising events since he was a child.

I was drawn to NMC’s unique model of care, its values led approach, and focus on supporting people to live full and independent lives. As a Trustee, I provide strategic oversight and practical challenge in areas such as people, engagement, communications – all underpinned by a belief in dignity, purpose and the right to opportunity for all.

Rosanne Diaz – Trustee

Rosanne has more than 20 years’ experience in Project Delivery within a range of sectors, including disability, health inequality, adult social care and homelessness. Rosanne brings to the board a deep understanding of the role of governance and delivery through others, and became a Trustee in 2021.

I have varied cross sector experience, a commitment to addressing inequalities and take an inclusive leadership approach through my team and programme management, through to policy design and other professional interests.
