We aim to support young people (aged 14+) with neuromuscular conditions to achieve their aspirations in life, whether this be learning to drive, live independently, find a job, access further education, or something else entirely.
Our coach works with young people through some of the changes and issues they may be facing. Our positive, realistic approach focuses on ability rather than disability.
We hold a range of events that are aimed at our younger community, including bushcraft and gaming days. These are open to anyone with neuromuscular conditions, as well as their families, friends and carers.
We can also work with your school, college and health professionals to contribute to your Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP).
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme
If you’re aged between 14 and 24 with an interest in exploring new territories, building new skills and taking on adventures, then the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme (DofE) is for you.
The scheme is a national programme promoting confidence, resilience and independence. It is flexible and fits around your other commitments. There are three progressive Award levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each takes approximately 12 months and follows the same format: Volunteering, Learning a new skill, Physical Activity and Expedition.
Members of our young community have taken part in Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. Perhaps the highlight of the award is participating in the expedition, which takes place at the fully accessible Bendrigg Trust in the Lake District where previous cohorts have taken on rock climbing, canoeing and orienteering.
We’re convinced you’ll love it, but if you aren’t sure yet, why not chat with our Young Persons coach to find out more?
